Books to Guide Your Journey

I have collected for you here a list of some of my favorite books for healing, growth, and transformation. If you are looking for guidance on self-healing, how to make the changes you want to make, or simply to explore teachings and spiritual practices, this list should keep you busy for a while!

There are more I will be adding over time, including any recent discoveries as I continue to explore new teachings. In no particular order...here are some of the books that have helped me throughout my life to navigate difficult transitions, self-heal, reclaim who I used to be, and discover the woman I'm meant to be. May they light your way as they have mine. ~ Cheryl

Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain This is the book that started it all for me nearly 35 years ago... Creative visualization is the art of using mental imagery and positive affirmation to produce positive changes in your life. What impressed me the most about this book is that it's not answer to "what" to change in your life, but rather a guide on "how" to make the changes your desire.

Rising Strong by Brené Brown This book was very helpful to me during a time when I truly found myself "face first in the dirt"after escaping a an emotionally damaging relationship. Shame was running amok and I wasn't sure how I was going to pick myself up. This book helped me reckon with my emotions and get curious about what I was feeling; then rumble with my story until I got to a place of truth.

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero Full of hilariously inspiring stories, sage advice, easy exercises, & the occasional swear word, this is a refreshing book. It sets out to help you to: identify & change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that stop you from getting what you want to create a life you totally love. By the end you'll understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can't change, how to change what you don't love. I found it both helpful and fun!

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz This is the book that re-ignited my quest for meaning and understanding. It also helped me deal with a difficult situation AND affirm some of my long-standing beliefs on how we should be as humans co-existing on this planet. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, The Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.

Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach This book came into my life at a time when I was dealing with some very difficult emotions that really scared me. Radical Acceptance does not mean self-indulgence or passivity. Instead it empowers genuine change: healing fear and shame and helping to build loving, authentic relationships. When we stop being at war with ourselves, we are free to live fully every precious moment of our lives.

Warrior Goddess Training by HeatherAsh Amara I had come so far on my healing journey, yet I felt stuck. I had discovered some very old wounds in the process and felt very overwhelmed by the prospect of working through them. A dear friend loaned me her copy of this book. These teachings were the missing piece for me in my healing journey. They changed the course of my life and put me squarely on my current path.

Braving The Wilderness by Brené Brown This might be my favorite of her books. "Strong back, soft front, wild heart" -- it's become my mantra. True belonging requires us to believe in and belong to ourselves so fully that we can find sacredness both in being a part of something and in standing alone when necessary. "True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are.”
